CATLETTSBURG, Ky.  Boyd County officials are continuing efforts to enhance economic development.

The new fiscal court has tripled the county’s economic development personnel, including a new Boyd County Economic Development director, TJ Morrison, and a digital content consultant, Zach Daniels, who’s role includes creating business profiles and live streaming fiscal court meetings.

Morrison said the video profiles have been extremely successful. Businesses have to ask the economic development department to create the videos, which are posted to the Boyd County Community and Economic Development Facebook page. Morrison said there are currently around 40 businesses on the waiting list.

“We’ve heard time and time again from our participants that the profiles are generating views and generating customers, which is at the end of the day what we were really wanting to do with this service,” he said.

One video has even gained over 27,000 views.

Chaney said the videos have also helped residents find new businesses that they may not have known existed in the county.

“It’s not about how many views it gets, it’s not about how many likes or shares, it’s just about having the accessibility and being able to rediscover your own community,” he said.

Morrison said the county is also looking into possibly performing profiles of organizations and other groups the don’t fall into the business category.

The county has also been making an effort to revamp the Kyova Mall. Morrison said an investment group had recently shown interest, but it didn’t pan out. He said the county now has another direction it is trying to pursue with another group, noting everything is in the early stages.
