Ashland Alliance

President’s Report – May 12, 2017

Collaboration and New Beginnings

It has been a busy week here at the Ashland Alliance.  Last week the theme of my update was centered on the Kentucky Derby.  This week collaboration and new beginnings seem to be front and center.  We participated in the joint public hearing of the Boyd County Fiscal Court and the City of Ashland.  It is great thing to see both governments working collectively toward a common vision.  The Alliance has felt the need for additional hotel rooms,  especially in the downtown area,  with the guests and clients we host.  This project has the ability to highlight the wonderful downtown we have here.  Hopefully, we will get to share it with a few hundred more a night coming soon.

The second point of the week was new beginnings.  The Ashland  Alliance has developed strong partnerships with our regional school systems.  Last year, we had over 600 seniors that earned a Work Seal in addition to their diploma.  This seal is a symbol of how our young people made a commitment and followed through with it.  They understood the opportunity to prove they are dependable, prompt, and give back to their community is the basis for what comes next in their lives.  Our Work Seal Program is a vital part of how we tell our story to business and industry.  There is no better incentive than a workforce dedicated to doing their job each and every day.

This morning I attended and presented 40 Work Seals at the Greenup County Senior Breakfast.   I have to admit, it felt different this year.  There was hope in the room.  Scores of people walked up and said,  thank you for your part in recruitment of Braidy Industries.  Teachers, students,  and administration all recognized how different it is to ask people to do the right thing when they have hope that a family wage job can come out of it.  This was a proud day for the community.  I hope we have similar days with the other five school districts' graduation and awards ceremonies.

Over the last week we have been contacted by several businesses asking how to be a part of the Ashland Alliance.  We want to offer you,  our partners,  a chance to refer new businesses to the Alliance and get some great chances to highlight your company in return.  For each new member referred by an existing member, we are offering a free President's Report ad or email blast.  If you refer three new members, you will receive 5% off of your renewal.

I am going to continue to say thank you to each one of our members.  Without you, we would not be where we are today.  Your faith, dedication, and commitment to making this region stronger is paying dividends.   We thank you.  Please reach out and schedule a visit for me or the staff to come to your business and let us find ways to make you grow and benefit from the economic activity in the region.

Thank you, and enjoy the spring!
