Times Move On
As we start the new year it is time to renew one of the core functions of the Alliance for your business. The Alliance is proud to serve as your legislative advocate and partner as the Kentucky Legislative session begins. Frankfort is abuzz with the 60-day budget session and several pieces of legislation that could affect you and your business.
Over this 60 day session, the Alliance will provide a weekly update on the actions of the legislative session and ensure you have timely access to your elected officials. Last night, the Alliance attended the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Annual Chamber Day with 1,600 business leaders in Lexington. This event featured presentations from all of the elected leaders of the Kentucky House and Senate along with Governor Bevin. The discussion was focused on the budget, which looks to be difficult at best, and how to handle the pension crisis. One thing was very clear, the pension issue is to be addressed. Kicking the can down the road is not an option.
Last night also represented a call to arms. Several of the elected officials mentioned the growth the Commonwealth of Kentucky is currently experiencing. Kentucky had over $9.7 billion in new investment with 17,000 jobs in 2017. Projects such as Braidy Industries and EnerBlu were mentioned and celebrated. The night represented more than just what happened last year. It asked the business community to stake a claim for the future economic direction for the state. In particular, Governor Bevin spoke directly to everyone in the crowd to do their part. Get involved, make a difference and voice your support for policies and opportunities that make this state grow and prosper.
This 60-day session is going to be difficult and fast-moving. Our job over this session will be representing you and your interests. Feel free to look at the weekly update from the Kentucky Chamber linked in this update and reach out to us to understand how we can help you and your company.
The Alliance is proud to represent you and your business. 2017 has passed, it is our duty to make 2018 the best possible year it can be. We will continue the work, the partnership and leadership each of you expects.
