GREENUP, Ky. — Despite Braidy Industries switching locations from South Shore to the EastPark industrial site, Greenup County officials remain pleased the upcoming jobs will remain in the county.
“I’m just so glad that we had a backup plan and that it worked. We saved our jobs and they’re going to be in Greenup County,” said Greenup County Judge-Executive Bobby Carpenter, referring to the anticipated 550 positions the Braidy aluminum mill is expected to create.
Braidy announced the change on Tuesday from South Shore to the EastPark Industrial Center, citing structural issues at the South Shore location. Braidy is now looking to purchase a site at the industrial center that is located in both Greenup and Boyd counties.
Carpenter said he was informed by Braidy around a week or two ago that they were having some issues with the South Shore site.
“So we’ve been sitting on this for about a week, a week and a half knowing it was looking every way they could,” he said.
