ASHLAND, Ky. — The 2016 Winter Wonderland of Lights Christmas Parade, held in downtown Ashland, will take place Tuesday, November 22, at 7 p.m. The theme for this year’s parade is “Christmas Movies” with Grand Marshal E. B. Gevedon, MD, area physician and a founding member of the Winter Wonderland of Lights Festival.
This year’s parade has over 3,500 participants; 4 high school bands; 4 high school JROTC units; 45 floats depiciting Christmas Movies to include: “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, “Frosty the Snowman”, Griswolds “Christmas Vacation”, “The Polar Express”, “Elf”, “A Christmas Story”, “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, “The Year without a Santa Claus”, “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer-Island of Misfit Toys”, “Silver Bells”, the biblical “Christmas Story”, “It’s a Wonderful Life”, and many other Christmas themes.
Ohio University Southern students will be taping the parade and it will be aired throughout the season on Time Warner Cable Stations. Also, there will be a live feed on Ohio University Southern, WSAZ and The Daily Independent websites.
The parade route is west on Carter Avenue to 14th Street, turns onto 14th to Winchester Avenue and proceeds east to 22nd Street. The parade will turn right toward Central or left toward Greenup to disburse. Units may designate the parking lot at 22nd and Central Avenue, Ashland First Church of the Nazarene’s lot, as a location for parents to pick up their children.
Fire trucks and emergency vehicles will line-up on 17th Street between Carter and Central Avenues; Police vehicles will line-up on 16th between Carter and Central; high school band buses must travel Central Avenue to 16th Street turn left onto 16th, drop band members off beside the parking garage, band members line-up under the parking garage not in their performance Division, and continue to band bus assigned parking area.
Divisions 1, 3, & 6, must enter from 22nd Street and travel up Carter Avenue to their designated area. Divisions 2, 4 & 7 must enter the line-up area by traveling on Greenup Avenue to their assigned street, turn up the designated street, and cross Winchester Avenue to the line-up area. Divisions 5, 8, 9, and 10 must travel Central Avenue to their designated area. Fire trucks may travel Lexington Avenue to 17th to enter their area.
All pageant winners will line-up on 18th Street between Winchester & Carter Avenues; and Shrine units are located on 19th St. between Central & Carter Avenues.
